DBT Skills Group
Facilitated by Kate Roscher, MSW, LICSW
About this group
DBT Skills Groups are a key component of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), aimed at increasing the tools at an individual’s disposal when navigating challenging situations, tolerating difficult emotions, and ultimately helping them build a life that feels worth living. Group is designed to teach each of the skills from the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills modules of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotion Regulation. Each group session will run for two hours and will be facilitated by Kate Roscher, LICSW (she/her). Each group will consist of mindfulness practice, a review of weekly homework, a brief break, learning a new skill from one of the DBT modules, and assigning homework for the next week. This Group is not a process group or support group, meaning, the focus is on skill acquisition rather than processing experiences or gaining support from other group members. A DBT Skills Group functions more like a class than those groups typically do. While we work to create a group that is supportive and therapeutic, it is not a “therapy group” or “support group.”
