Life After High-Control Religion
Facilitated by Sarah Grandinetti, LMHCA
About this group
An 8-week virtual therapy group for adults in Washington State Navigating life after a high-control, fear-based, or spiritually harmful religious experience can bring up questions about identity, relationships, values, and belonging. Many people find themselves grieving losses, re-examining long-held beliefs, learning to trust themselves, or trying to figure out what comes next. This therapist-led group offers a supportive space for adults who are questioning, deconstructing, reconstructing, redefining, or simply processing the impact of their religious experiences. Participants are welcome regardless of where they are in their journey. The goal of the group is not to promote or discourage any particular belief system, but rather to support each person's process of healing, self-discovery, and growth. Topics may include: Understanding the impact of high-control religious environments Shame, guilt, fear, and self-trust Identity and values outside of external expectations Boundaries with family, faith communities, and institutions Grief, loss, and anger Relationships, belonging, and community Reclaiming personal agency and meaning This group is intended to provide a compassionate, affirming environment where participants can connect with others who understand the unique challenges of navigating life after religious harm or high-control religious experiences.
